APC wins Yobe N/Assembly bye-election


The All Progressive Congress (APC) has won National Assembly bye-election held yesterday at Damaturu/Gulani/Tarmowa/Gujba federal constituency in Yobe state.


The bye election was conducted to fill the vacant seat left by the minister of state foreign affairs Hon. Khadija Bukar Ibrahim who vacated the seat to serve in President Muhammadu Buhari's administration.
 
Declaring the results, the returning officer of the election, Professor Sunday Alao said the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Hon Abdullahi Usman Kukuwa polled a total votes 23, 745, defeating his closest rival Hon Nasiru Hassan Yusuf of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 6990 votes.
 
He declared that Adamu Mohammed Dina of the Advance Congress for Democracy (ACD) got a total of 163 while Jibril Ladan scored 139 votes to emerged third and second position.
 
Parties Agents of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and his counterpart from All Progressive  Congress, Dr. Zaji Bunu, said they have accepted the outcome of the election and commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), security personnel, observers, and monitors for the hitch free exercise.
 
However, all the four party Agents congratulated the winner after signing the results sheets and wished him a productive representation at the national assembly.
 
The state Commissioner of police in Yobe, Zannah M Ibrahim who spoke at the collation centre described the exercise as calm, and violence free, and commended the political parties for exhibiting maturity throughout the electoral process.
 
The Commissioner, also advised the Political parties to sustain the tempo as the state is set for yet another bye-election to fill in the vacant position left by the winner, who is a state Assembly member representing Gulani constituency before he won the contest yesterday.
