George Weah To Run
For Liberian Presidency – Legendary Liberian footballer George Weah has
revealed plans to once again run for the country’s presidency.
Current President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s final term ends
next year, and the former AC Milan striker has revealed his decision to once
again contest.
“Like many of you, I have been a victim of poverty,” he said to
supporters while declaring his ambition. “There were times I didn’t have school
fees. I continued to strive with the hope that one day life will get better.”
Weah had formed the Congress
for Democratic Change party in 2005 when he first contested and lost to Johnson
Sirleaf. In 2011, he contested once again as Vice President for Winston
Tubman, who lost again to Johnson Sirleaf.
The 1995 World Footballer of The Year is currently a Senator in
the country, representing the Montserrado County.
