Top Trump: The Donald calls himself the 'presumptive nominee' after scoring five-state GOP primary sweep with easy victories in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Delaware

Donald Trump inched closer to the Republican party's presidential nomination Tuesday night with primary election victories in all five Northeastern states where GOP voters went to the polls.

A total of 172 delegates to the Republican National Convention are up for grabs in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island, all places where Trump has led wire to wire in opinion polls. Seconds after polls closed at 8:00 p.m., cable news networks projected Trump victories in Connecticut, Maryland and Pennsylvania. Cheers erupted from the food court beneath the lobby of Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan, where his campaign was celebrating while reporters awaited a victory speech upstairs.
