You're necked! Policemen forced to sleep in German wildlife park to make room for visiting G5 leaders - including Obama - get a rude awakening from a curious giraffe

Around 250 officers were sleeping in their vans at the Serengeti Park (pictured) in Hodenhagen, northern Germany, before a meeting of the G5 group of nations in Hanover.

But those who ended up in the giraffe enclosure found themselves to be objects of fascination for the normal residents - who decided to have a peek inside their vehicles (top right and left). The Police Department was forced to billet officers in the safari park because of a shortage of accommodation prior to Angela Merkel's meeting with President Obama and the leaders of Britain, France and Italy. With hotels and barracks already full with their colleagues from abroad, the officers had to spend a night among the animals.
