Most of us think we know how best to stay safe in the sun - cover up, stay in the shade at midday and invest in a high-factor sunscreen. 


But increasingly research is casting doubts over what we know about sun protection and, in particular, our understanding of sunscreens. Only this month an investigation by the consumer watchdog Which? found that the sunscreens marketed as providing 'all-day' protection don't live up to the promise.
