Harrowing truth about home births: The NHS wants more women to give birth at home. But mothers deserted by midwives and left in agony reveal their distress
Layla Woollard, 27, from Hull, (pictured bottom left with son Miles, now one, also pictured bottom centre) wanted a home birth but her dream melted away when her midwives said they could not work through the night.
Meanwhile, Leanne Shrubb, 30, from Swindon, Wiltshire, (right with daughter Eden) was deserted by her midwives halfway through, leaving her husband Richard to deliver daughter Eden (inset as a baby). And Lindsey Fish, 32, from Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, (top left with daughter Molly, also pictured top centre) wanted a hypnobirth at an independent birthing centre but was rushed to hospital when she started bleeding at full term. There are fears over how system will support the growing number of women who are choosing home births.
