The great celebrity house price slump: From Robbie's manor with £2m off to Cheryl's £500k cut, how stars can't shift their mansions - no matter how many millions they lop off the cost. Hankies out!

The palatial palaces of footballers, actors and singers, among other celebrities, are lingering on the property market for months at a time, forcing sellers to slash the asking price.

For those of us stuck in the mundane world of mortgages and rent, it's hard to feel sorry for them, but spare a thought for celebrities trying - and failing - to sell their homes. Former Take That star Robbie Williams (top left) has had to cut the asking price for his Wiltshire manor house by £2million, down to just £5.5million. Cheryl (top right) has slashed hers by £500,000 and is now asking for £6.99million for her and ex-husband Ashley Cole's Surrey love nest. Meanwhile Ricky Gervais (bottom left) and Tom Conti (bottom right) have dropped their asking prices by £700,000 and £2.5million respectively. But why are these stars struggling to sell?
