Farewell to the Louisville Lip: Muhammad Ali's hometown says goodbye to its favourite son after the greatest boxer ever dies aged 74 following 32-year battle with Parkinson's

Hundreds of mourners (left and inset) gathered to lay flowers and heartfelt messages in Muhammad Ali's hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, today.

The iconic sportsman (inset) died aged 74 overnight following a 32-year-long battle with Parkinson's disease. His family, who were by his side during his 'peaceful passing', said he would be buried in Louisville. The city's mayor Greg Fischer declared that flags on all government buildings would remain at half-staff (right) until Ali has been laid to rest. 'He represents that greatness came from Louisville... It makes me want to change my life,' one heartbroken local said at the Ali Center, which has become a shrine to Louisville's favorite son.
