Close run thing Ma'am? Race-loving Queen bites her nails as she watches the Aga Khan's horse win the Derby at Epsom

The Queen enjoyed a nail-biting Derby Day in Surrey today where Harzand overcame a last-minute scare to clinch victory for veteran rider Pat Smullen.

With the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Andrew and over 100,000 spectators the Queen braved the gloomy and overcast weather early on to enjoy a warmer afternoon. Clad in a sky blue coat, a white and blue patterned dress and complimentary accessories, the Queen was wrapped up and ready to cheer on the horses and riders at the Epsom Derby Festival. Despite a grey start to the day's activities, members of the royal family and revellers alike soaked up the atmosphere at the popular horse racing event. Temperatures were around 18 C but later on in the afternoon reached 23 C. The Met Office said that while today's derby may have been a rather damp affair, conditions look set to improve across the UK over the next 24 hours - with highs of around 25-26 C tomorrow.
