Baby born with intestines and bladder outside his body is wrapped in CLING FILM to save him from deadly infection
Doctors were forced to wrap Jack Hearne in cling film (inset) in a desperate attempt to save his life. Four months on he is finally home (right) in Waterford, Ireland, with his parents.
A rare birth defect, called gastroschisis, meant he was born with two of his vital organs on the outside after his abdomen failed to form properly. A team of paediatricians quickly wrapped Jack's organs in cling film before letting his mother, Orla, (left) have a quick hold of him - he was then rushed to intensive care. Hours later, Jack had his first operation where surgeons were able to put two thirds of his organs back into his stomach. But an operation the next day allowed his remaining organs to fall back into place.
