'Boycott hated me, but I've won him over!': Hales reveals how he has become safe bat
When Geoff Boycott wrote Alex Hales off following England's series win over South Africa last winter, the Nottinghamshire opener had a choice to make.
He could return home and sulk about a debut Test series in which he scored just 136 runs at 17 while others around him filled their boots or he could take the criticism on the chin, work to improve his game and disprove Boycott's theory that he 'didn't have the appetite' for Test cricket. Fortunately for England, Hales, 27, did the latter after being advised by coach Paul Farbrace to tighten up his work outside off-stump while staying true to his natural instinct to attack.
