'I can walk again after years in a wheelchair': Father with MS stands up within DAYS of having stem cell therapy in Mexico

Eric Thomson, 50, from Hartlepool, was confined to a wheelchair and unable to wash himself or make a cup of tea.

He had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis four years ago, and it progressed until he could no longer use his right hand or his legs. The NHS could do no more for him, but his family raised £40,000 to go to a clinic in Mexico for stem cell therapy they hoped would slow the progression of the disease. To his utter amazement, within days he was able to rise from his wheelchair and walk (right). Mr Thomson has now returned to the UK and plans to fundraise so others can have the treatment. He said: 'I wasn't expecting this level of success - if it just stopped the progression that would have been enough. 'The downside is the cost, but you can't put a price on a life. I am absolutely delighted with the results and now say that I used to have MS.'
