Nick Cannon's father has lashed out at Mariah Carey, claiming she never wanted to save the former couple's marriage and suspects she was having an affair with current fiancé James Packer.

TV evangelist James Cannon says that the timing of the hit singer's wedding announcement at the start of the year is 'suspicious' and says that if his own son had done the same he'd be treated like 'a gigolo'.

Instead, he points the finger firmly at Mariah and says Nick was desperate to save the marriage, and wanted to go for counseling rather than end it so quickly.

Mariah and Nick, who have four-year-old twins, son Moroccan and daughter Monroe, were married for six years until they separated two years ago.
