Meltdown: Chaos as trains are cancelled because rails are TOO HOT and roads melt as temperatures pass 33C - but get ready for violent thunderstorms with a 'month's worth of rain'

A third of rush-hour trains leaving London Paddington including those to Oxford, Maidenhead and Henley-on-Thames have already been cancelled.

And many more services taking workers home from the capital tonight will be delayed because the rails are simply too hot to handle the trains. It comes as Britain basks in a sweltering heatwave with temperatures already surpassing 33C as the nation enjoys one of the hottest July days ever. Twitter has been awash with posts from people enduring uncomfortable journeys into and from work, especially on the stifling London Underground.
