The reason Harry didn't ever talk about his mother: How the prince kept his grief locked up for 16 years for fear of upsetting CAMILLA
Prince Harry (right, with his mother in 1986), 31, revealed at a barbecue held earlier this week for the UK mental health campaign Heads Together that he only began speaking about the loss of his mother three years ago.
While his actions were being celebrated as examples of Harry's vital qualities in championing taboo subjects, it was his reflections on his mother that were being talked about in Buckingham Palace corridors. Long-time courtiers were left wondering about the significance of the remarks and why, almost 19 years after Diana was killed, Harry should now feel the time was right to 'open up' about her. This should not, of course, be interpreted as an unwillingness to mourn his mother but rather a determination to keep his grief private. However, there was one other over-riding factor, a dread of upsetting their father - and Camilla (together, left, last year). Pictured inset: The Diana memorial fountain in Hyde Park.
