Britain's new golden boy! Adam Peaty, 21, wins Team GB's first medal and smashes his own world record as he powers to victory in the 100m breaststroke in Rio

Adam Peaty smashed his own world record as he won gold in the 100m breaststroke at the Rio 2016 Olympics.

The 21-year-old was the heavy favourite going into the final and lived up to the billing in Rio by streaking ahead of the competition to claim gold.  Peaty's compatriot James Guy will be hoping he can add to Team GB's swimming medal haul, but is waiting to find out if he did enough to qualify for the men's 200m freestyle final.
