‘ICT generates $32bn in 15 years’

The Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu, said the information and technology sector generated $32bn in the last 15 years.

Speaking at the Insight 2016 Cyber Security Conference in Lagos, yesterday, he noted that the sector also created 10 million jobs in the last 10 years.

At the event themed, ‘Promoting Cyber Security and Improving Strategy in Nigeria – A Leadership Approach’, he said: “ICT is currently contributing up to 10 percent of Nigeria’s GDP. It is indeed one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy and is the second largest ICT market in Africa.

The number of Internet subscribers also rose from less than 1 million in 2003 to over 80 million in November 2015.”
