The saddest goodbye: Heartbreaking moment devoted couple married for 62 years are forced to separate because they can't get into the same care home

A Canadian couple who have been married for 62 years are being forced to live apart after because of a shortage of spaces in care homes. 


Wolf and Anita Gottschalk, who live in the city of Surrey, British Columbia, have been married since 1954. Wolf is in declining health and misses his wife of six decades. The family are doing all they can to ensure they spend as much time with one another as possible, however it is still a half hour drive between their respective care homes. A photo of seniors Wolf and Anita Gottschalk wiping away tears during a visit to see one another has struck a chord on Facebook, where it's been shared more than 2,500 times. When the time comes for them to part once more, (right) the tears begin to flow.
