Rotary to train 500 youths, women in skills acquisition

The District Governor, Rotary District 9110, Rotarian Patrick Ijehon Ikheloa has said the society plans to empower 500 youths and women in skills acquisition during the year.

Ikheloa, who revealed this when he visited the Rotary Club of Falomo, Ikoyi, Lagos, explained that Rotary has written to government seeking support for the initiative.

According to the Rotary 9110 chief: “We are also reaching out to the Ooni of Ife, captains of industry and communities where we can put big projects to showcase to the rest of the world what positive impact we have made in our communities.”

He said Rotary has made huge contributions to the wellbeing of the people especially in the area of provision of clean water through sinking of boreholes.

He added: “Rotary is also doing eye screening for the old and the young annually. It is providing kidney transplant facilities to enable people undergo treatment. It has renovated toilets in schools in Lagos and Ogun States to improve sanitation and intends to do more.

“We are on the crusade to sensitize people on the need to eradicate polio in Nigeria. If everything goes well, Nigeria will be observing two years of polio-free and we have one year to go. You know that the last year of any journey or a race is very difficult that is why we are going all out to make publication in leaflets, print and electronic media to sensitize our communities on the need to continue to sustain that momentum that we have achieved over the years. We are looking for people of goodwill to join Rotary and help to spread the good work Rotary is doing all over the world.”

He said while there are many challenges confronting Rotary, he identified relunctance to join which has made raising the necessary funds for development difficult.

He admonished youths to stay on the path of righteousness and cultivate virtues that extol a nation.He said: “Dedication, truth at all times and prudence. Our children should be dedicated; they should listen to good counsel.

They should know that education is important to success in life and, as I always do, advise my children: to ask questions when they are in doubt. Don’t pretend that you know when you do not know. Once you ask questions, then be rest assured that you will get the answer.”
