Sole survivor of Vietnam plane crash which killed 29 people tells how she clung to life in the jungle for a WEEK with fractured hips, gangrene and bone sticking out of her shin
Dutch native Annette Herfkens was travelling with her fiancé on board Vietnam Airlines Flight 474 from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trangon November 14, 1992, when it crashed into a mountain.
The then 31-year-old (seen left in a Singapore hospital afterwards) survived for a week alone by drinking rainwater collected in sponges and avoiding her dead lover's corpse. She was rescued after seven days by a local policeman (seen together right, returning to the site in 2006) who thought she was a ghost because he had never seen a white woman before. She tells of her trauma in the book Turbulence: A True Story of Survival (inset).
