Want to live longer? Eat Japanese food: Revealed, 5 health-boosting ingredients found in popular dishes


London-based nutritionist Cassandra Barns reveals the five foods in the Japanese diet that could help us live longer. 


Fish (top left) are rich in selenium, which is vital for our antioxidant defences and immune system. Miso and umami paste (top right) are considered to be helped to women after menopause as they contain isoflavones - which have a weak oestrogen-like effect on the body. Green tea - matcha (bottom right) in particular - is high in a specific type of flavanols called catechins while seaweed (bottom left) is rich in minerals, including iodine, zinc, magnesium, calcium, potassium.
