US popular actor Jamie Foxx is executive producing a new TV series which focuses on legendary Motown star Mavin Gaye who met a violent end after getting shot to death by his father in 1984.
Gaye was known for a string of hits including “I Heard It Through the Grapevine,” “What’s Going On,” “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You),” “Let’s Get It On” and “Ain’t That Peculiar.”
He earned the titles Prince of Motown and Prince of Soul, and is enshrined in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
It will be shopped to linear and digital distribution outlets.
“Although several others have attempted to get series about Gaye off the ground, none before this have had the approval of the Gaye family,” Variety notes. “The Foxx-produced series has the blessing of Gaye’s son, Marvin Gaye III.”
Gaye was shot to death on April 1, 1984, by his father, Marvin Gay Sr., at their home in the West Adams district of Los Angeles.
