ZeroWaste Technologies, a company which develops autonomous waste management solutions, has emerged winner of the 2016 edition of Innoventures‘ Startup Reactor.
A five months program, Startup Reactor is aimed at supporting and accelerating startups in Egypt with a high potential for accelerated growth.
After applications closed, 25 startups were selected for a one month Startup Bootcamp. They were later pruned down to 11 after a pitch session at the end of the bootcamp.
The 11 startups went through an immersive training and mentoring program as they developed their business model, prototype, brand and customer base.
They also received access to office space, support services, and resources for financial, legal and branding aspects throughout the duration of the program.
The program culminated in a Startup Showcase, where the startups pitched to investors, potential partners and customers, with ZeroWaste emerging winner.
ZeroWaste develops simple and effective technologies to save natural resources, through waste management, water saving, and energy consumption reduction.
Its first product is CanBank, a reverse vending machine that gives user cell phone credit in exchange of used beverage cans as an intensive to recycle.
ZeroWaste received €5,000 while €3,000 and €2,000 went to Tripdizer and Perligos (the second and third placed startups) respectively.
Also, the startups will pitch at RiseUp Summit, a leading entrepreneurship event in the Middle East and Africa which is set to hold from December 9 – 11, 2016 in Downtown Cairo, Egypt.
Startup Reactor was organized in partnership with VC4Africa and supported by Oxfam Novib, as part of an international alliance called Work In Progress!
