Opera Max now has over 50 million monthly active users

Opera Software has announced its data management and compression app, Opera Max has reached 50 million monthly active users worldwide. Launched in 2013, Opera Max, described as the first in the world to optimize streaming video and music, helps users save data by compressing video, images and text used by their devices.

This means they can use their favourite apps, browse your favourite sites and use less data while doing both.
To make this possible, the app uses a Virtual Private Network, or VPN, to measure all the data usage on users’ phone. Once Opera Max savings is enabled, all non encrypted data requests are sent through its compression servers that optimize video, images, and websites to use less data.
The app has other features that gives users more value. Its privacy mode protects against data- and identity-thieves when on an unprotected public Wi-Fi, and data manager ensures users can control the data used by apps on their phones.
The app reached the 10 million users mark back in May 2016 before this latest milestone. In celebration, Opera Max now has a new feature called VIP mode.
Introduced by popular demand, this mode allows users to continuously use data saving and privacy features without any limits – Opera Max savings and privacy services used to be time-limited.
“…with the all-new VIP mode, you can get unlimited savings and privacy without topping up your timer. In exchange, an ad will show up on your charge screen. This will be visible on the lockscreen, but only when your phone is plugged in to charge,” said Sergey Lossev, Head of Product, Opera Max.
When users turn on VIP mode, they’ll always get unlimited access to all of Opera Max’s features, even when their phones aren’t plugged in and charging.
If you don’t already have Opera Max on your smartphone, click here to download it and enjoy all its benefits. It’s only available for Android users at the moment.
