Swiss nonprofit foundation, World Economic Forum (WEF) has selected six female entrepreneurs from Nigeria, Uganda, South Africa and Kenya as its top female technology innovators in Africa for 2017.
Launched last year with winners coming from Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda, the challenge is aimed at identifying Africa’s next generation of top female technology innovators and entrepreneurs.
Announced in March, this edition of the contest was open to female entrepreneurs on the continent whose businesses are less than three years old, uses innovative technology or business models, and has at least one year of revenue generation.
The Forum’s judging panel has now selected the winners of the challenge.
They are Nigeria’s Oluwayimika Angel Adelaja, founder of Fresh Direct and Temie Giwa-Tubosun, founder of LifeBank; SA’s Darlene Menzies, founder of FinFind and Aisha Pandor, co-founder of SweepSouth.
Completing the list are Uganda’s Esther Karwera, co-founder of Akorion and Kenya’s Charity Wanjiku, co-founder of Strauss Energy Ltd.
According to the WEF, these six entrepreneurs “demonstrate the positive role women are playing in creating opportunities and preparing the region for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”
All the winners got an invite to the World Economic Forum on Africa 2017, which held from May 3 – 5, where they contributed their ideas on boosting entrepreneurialism across Africa.
