Jumia Travel Reiterates Commitment to Nigeria's Tourism, Hospitality industry


Omolara Adagunodo, managing director, Jumia Travel (Nigeria), one of the leading online travel agencies in Nigeria, has reiterated that the Company is passionate to change the face of tourism and hospitality industry in the country.


Adagunodo made the remark, at a conference on Nigerian Hospitality & Tourism 2017 with the Theme: “Maximizing the potentials of the Hospitality & Tourism industry in Nigeria, The role of Government. A case study being Tour Nigeria Initiative by Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC)”,

She stated that they believe so such in the potentials of the tourism and hospitality industry in Nigeria , adding, it informed why they seek for mutually beneficial collaborations with corporate organizations, with individuals and government agencies that have the same purpose with them.

Omolara added that one of the challenges faced when Jumia Travel (then Jovago) started in the industry was lack of data in the travel industry, and this informed why they came up with a report called ‘Nigerian Hospitality Industry Bill’.

She stated that the main thrust of the report is to present facts and figures of tourism and hospitality industry in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.

The reports documented the Company’ journey since it commenced operations in 2013.

The MD believes that the report will get richer by the day with the right collaboration, especially with the collaboration of Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC).

She also added that they are passionate about the democratization travel in Nigeria. She disclosed that “when we started as a company we took interest in hotels that were not well known but had good physical structures and fantastic amenities, the ones that many people will never go because nobody knew that they have these amenities.

“Today these hotels have become stronger part of our business and we have opened up a new world of opportunities for them and at the same time expose a lot of our customers to them”, she said.
