Bruno Fernandes reveals Ronaldo's glory years at Old Trafford inspired him to join the Red Devils

Bruno Fernandes has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo made it his 'childhood dream' to one day go on and play for Manchester United.

Fernandes swapped Sporting Lisbon for United in a £68million January move and has left fans impressed in his handful of performances since joining.

And speaking to Sky Sports ahead of facing Watford this weekend, Fernandes opened up on the impact Ronaldo, who he plays alongside for the Portuguese national team, has had on his career to date.

'When Cristiano burst on to the scene here in Manchester, he spent a good chunk of his early career here and enjoyed so much success,' Fernandes said.

'That's why it was a dream of mine to play for Manchester United and I'm very pleased to be here because it's a childhood dream come true.'

Ronaldo enjoyed rich success at United before departing for Real Madrid in a then record £80m move in 2009.

He departed with one Champions League, one FA Cup, one FIFA Club World Cup, two League Cup's and three Premier League titles to look back on.

Fernandes has arrived into a side that remains in transition but that has not seen the former Sporting captain limit his ambitions for trophies.

'I think any player who joins Manchester United wants to win everything; I want to win every competition that Manchester United compete in,' he added.

'I'm an ambitious player who wants success and I want to win every game in every competition we're in.'

Fernandes has appeared a clever acquisition by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in helping add quality and creativity to United's midfield.
