Anambra State Governor Obiano expresses worry over flooding

The Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has raised the alarm over the possibility of a flood disaster in the state this year.
A statement by the Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Uju Nwogu, on Wednesday, urged residents living in riverine areas to be wary of flooding.
In 2012, Anambra communities of Ayamelum, Anambra-East , Anambra-West, Ogbaru, Awka-North, among others were flooded following heavy rains.
The statement said that the Nigerian Meteorological Agency had predicted that Anambra would experience flooding between September and October, especially in riverine communities.
It said that in anticipation, the state government had embarked on the construction of camps in different locations of the state to accommodate those who would likely be affected.
The statement quoted the governor as calling on residents to embark on proactive measures to stem the tide of flooding.
The governor also urged those living along river banks to relocate to uplands in order to avoid flooding.
