Samsung launches SleepSense gadget to control house devices when you are asleep (Photos)

SAMSUNG has revealed a new bed-based device – dubbed SleepSense – which promises to track the quality of your sleep and control your lights, door locks and the devices in your home, depending on whether or not you are awake.

Samsung unveiled a new disk-shaped device, dubbed the SleepSense, which slides underneath your pillow to track your night’s kip.
SleepSense can use your sleep data to control other devices around the house – dimming lights and turning off the television when it detects that you’ve finally dozed off.
The South Korean giant unveiled the new gadget during its press conference at the IFA consumer electronics show, in Berlin.
Samsung also revealed a £199 SmartThings kit which allows you to control your heating, door locks and wireless security cameras from an app.
Once the Samsung SleepSense is slipped underneath your sleeping body, it will keep a track of your heart rate, breathing and movement during the night.
It claims the devices has an impressive 97 per cent accuracy when tracking the quality of your sleep.
Your sleep data is then sent to a smartphone app, similar to products from Fitbit, Jawbone and MisFit, which then creates a Sleep Score.
Samsung says an individual’s score is based on seven different factors including total sleep time, the number of times you awoke and the percentage of REM sleep.
Sleep data is mapped against a graph of people from a similar age group, which allows you to assess yourself against your peers.
Expert advice is provided based on your score, which should help you improve your night’s rest through nutrition and exercise tips.
SleepSense data can control other devices based on your sleep data using the Samsung SmartThings Hub.
So you can have your coffee machine to splutter into life and start brewing your morning Mocha when the SleepSense detects that you are up and about.
Samsung has yet to announce a price for the SleepSense plate.
