Zomato Launches Online Food Ordering Service in South Africa

Zomato, South Africa’s largest restaurant discovery platform has announced the launch of an online food ordering service in South Africa.
Customers will be able to order food online for home delivery from a selection of over 150 restaurants including Burgerack, Stella, Simply Asia, Founders’ Grill and a host of others.
The food orders placed by customers will go directly to the restaurants – as opposed to its competitors who employ middlemen, who have the power to accept and reject the orders.
“Having a close relationship with many restaurants, we get to know what challenges they are facing, and at the moment, one of them is the lack of backroom technology within each restaurant,” Zomato’s Country Manager and former CEO of Webfluential, Steven Murray said in a press release made available to TechLoy.
He added, “Launching Zomato’s online ordering services in South Africa is one of the ways that we are trying to bridge this gap. Working professionals in South Africa are increasingly working longer hours, and it is these busier schedules that have had a positive impact on the home delivery and takeaway market – making it the ideal next step in Zomato’s expansion plans.”
By the end of the current fiscal year, Zomato expects an average of 250 food orders to have been placed per day with a significant portion of the orders expected to come from Johannesburg.
Consumers can order food online using either the Zomato app (available on iOS andAndroid) or its website, and will soon be able to place orders online for takeaway as well
