The tumult experienced following the declaration of Yahaya Bello of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Kogi state governorship poll is set to be addressed.
This follows a report that the APC, Kogi state chapter, has constituted a Reconciliation Committee that is due for inauguration next week in Lokoja, the state chapter.
Speaking with Daily Post in Abuja on Friday, December 18, Haddy Ametuo, the state chairman of the APC, said the move is aimed at resolving the political clash caused by the sudden death of Prince Abubakar Audu, in which Alhaji Yahaya Bello emerged governor-elect of Kogi state.
According to Ametuo, Audu’s death should unite Kogites rather than divide them.
The APC state chairman also called on Audu’s running mate, Hon James Abiodun Faleke to see what happened as an act of God which is beyond anybody’s control.
He said: “Late Audu’s death should unite Kogites which he stood for and I want to call on Hon James Faleke to accept this as an Act of God so that together we can build the state.
“I want to assure Hon. James Faleke and all Kogites that the governor-elect is a gentleman that would never contemplate harming anybody for political reasons. So Faleke should be free and go to sleep and as a member of Kogi state political family he should be free.
“The national headquarters of the party has done its best by invoking party supremacy in the appropriate manner that would stand the test of time.”
The tension in the Kogi state APC camp has continued to trigger reactions from different quarters.
James Faleke, Bello’s purported deputy, declared that he would not be available for swearing in with Bello on January 27.
Faleke had, upon the death of his principal, Prince Abubakar Audu, written to the INEC asking them to declare him as winner of the polls, despite the INEC having initially declared the poll as inconclusive.
