Huawei To Train 2,000 Nigerians On ICT

Huawei, a Chinese telecommunication and networking equipment manufacturer has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Federal Government of Nigeria to train 2,000 Nigerians on Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

The program, which is under Huawei’s Seeds for the Future program, will see the 2,000 Nigerians secure ICT trainee jobs, and has been described as part of the present administration’s agenda to create jobs for the youth.
“In the change agenda, how to grow the economy is important and we want to create ICT hubs and support existing ones. We thank Huawei for this initiative of advancing technology in Nigeria, apart from the job creation itself,” Nigeria’s VP, Professor Yemi Osinbajo said during the signing ceremony of the MOU.
He added, “ICT is one of the quickest ways people can get decent jobs, so we think this is absolutely important.”
The 2,000 trainees will be selected and supervised by the Ministries of Labour and Communications as part of the agreement of MOU.
Huawei has signed similar MOUs with a few organizations and African countries such as Botswana, Southern African Telecommunication Association and the African Union in a bid to develop the ICT sector across Africa through its cutting-edge ICT technologies.
Huawei’s Seed for the Future program, which drives knowledge transformation by leveraging its world-leading ICT technologies to cultivate professionals, has been implemented in over 45 countries.
