Runners Don Their Best Christmas Fancy Dress For 5k Run In Plymouth

Eager runners have come together this weekend to partake in a Christmas fancy dress themed run through Plymbridge Woods.

Plymvalley parkrun happens every Saturday at 9am throughout the year where anyone wanting to join in on the 5k timed run is welcome, and what's more, the event is totally free.
Saturday 19th of December saw hundreds of runners turn up at the starting point donning their best Christmas gear, including one runner who wore a turkey hat on his head throughout the run.
Volunteers help to steward and organise the run and welcomes any and everyone to try out the 5k on a Saturday, crossing wild flower meadows, bridges and canal paths to get you back to the starting point on a circular course.
Being the last Saturday before Christmas, event organisers thought it would be a nice touch to see runners sweat it out in fancy dress.
Owain Thomas, one of the volunteers who has kept parkrun going strong for three and a half years joined in on the fancy dress run.
"It was a great day despite the rainy weather.
"Everyone was in good spirit and we always have a good time.
"The event really allows us to create a community and the group has a great social link.
"Whether you're young, old, fast, slow, there is no discrimination, we just want people to run."
The next run will go ahead on boxing day if you're ready to start your New Year's Resolution early, or you can go along to the group's special run event, which will see runners take part in two 5k stints in one week on the 1st and 2nd of January 2016.
