Ilona Richards, 66, from Scunthorpe, hasn't worked since her late 50s but claims that her thrifty lifestyle allows her to live off just £2,400 a year - even if that means keeping the heating turned off.

She buys most of her clothes from charity shops, boils her water in the microwave and spends just £10 a week on food, going to the supermarket after 7.30pm when the prices are knocked down.
