US-based tech giant, Microsoft has announced that it will be ending support for the Internet Explorer (IE) 8, 9 and 10.
From January 12, all the three versions will no longer receive any updates – not even security updates. I’m quite sure a lot of users know the implications of this.
Users of IE8, 9 and 10 have been therefore advised to upgrade to IE 11, which still ships with Windows 10.
Microsoft will deliver a patch for the browsers which will ask users to upgrade to IE 11. The update will arrive on January 12 for Windows 7 computers and Windows Server 2008 R2 users.
Users who do not want to upgrade to IE 11 can simply disable the update that requires them to upgrade to IE 11.
“This is, indeed, great news for web developers who are tired of supporting old versions of Internet Explorer in modern websites. If you are still using IE 8, 9 or 10, you should probably upgrade to Internet Explorer 11 to enjoy a better browsing experience on the internet,” Microsoft stated on its blog.
The launch of Windows 10 saw the introduction of a new browser called Microsoft Edge. The purpose of Edge was to completely replace Internet Explorer.
While Microsoft is still delivering Internet Explorer 11 with Windows 10, it is only a matter of time before it gets totally phased out.
