Are The Snobs About To Ruin Aintree Ladies' Day? Race Bosses Tell Liverpool Ladies To 'Up The Style Stakes' With £43,000 Prizes For The Best-Dressed

Fancy dress, garish colours, sky-scraper heels and knicker flashing - not to mention guests ruining their outfits by lying down on the floor due to one to many glasses of Champagne - were all par for the course at last April's event (pictured left to right).

But Aintree bosses are hoping to improve standards, and are inviting ladies to show a more toned-down approach to fashion by offering a style award in the shape of a £35,000 Range Rover.

John Baker, the northwest regional director for the Jockey Club, which owns Aintree in Liverpool, says that he is hoping the financial incentive will help give the event a facelift. He said: 'We felt we had to refresh Ladies' Day.This year we will have a style code rather than a dress code.'
