Senate President Bukola Saraki on Monday assured members of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) that the Senate would do everything within its capacity to subdue the current 45% hike in electricity tariff across the country.
He gave this assurance while addressing the NLCmembers who staged a peaceful protest to the National Assembly complex, Abuja to express its grief towards the decision of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to increase electricity tariff nationwide.
Saraki said: “Today, a powerful group of representatives from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) came to the National Assembly to protest the 45% upward increment of electricity tariffs by the power companies. I reassured the protesters that the Senate, and the National Assembly as a whole would do everything in its power to ensure that everyday Nigerians do not have to suffer at the mercy of corporations that seek to make profits on our heads, without delivering on their services”.
