It is not quite the year of the underdog. Not yet. Wait for it, wait for it. Manchester United are still in there fighting for the scions of privilege.
They will return to Upton Park for one last FA Cup tie beneath the floodlights. If they win, they will join Everton, Crystal Palace and Watford in the last four. If not, well it merely may be time to watch the skies.
There's some strange stuff going down. A shot on target from a Manchester United player to equalise in the 83rd minute. A West Ham goal that defeated the usually infallible David De Gea from 30 yards.
And the fact that the man who scored that - Dimitri Payet - shouldn't really have been on the field.
There it was, a full set of improbability. After all, when did United last look like scoring, or an away team catch a break at Old Trafford? It must be something in the water, this season.
