Sarah Young, top, 40, of London, was killed after being swept off her yacht in the Pacific Ocean while her team was racing in the Pacific Ocean between China and Seattle, US.
Miss Young, described as a keen adventurer, was not tethered to the yacht, the IchorCoal, bottom, by a safety line and efforts to rescue her were hampered by poor conditions.
Clipper Race Founder Sir Robin Knox-Johnston paid tribute to her saying: 'On behalf of everyone at Clipper Ventures, I am deeply saddened by the loss of Sarah.
She was a very popular and integral member of the Clipper Race family.' Miss Young is the second person to die in the race's 19-year history after Andrew Ashman, 49, was killed after being hit by a sail last September.
