Alabama DA refuses to prosecute two star football players on weapons and drugs charges because he didn't want it to 'ruin their lives' and affect their careers

DA Jerry Jones (left) cited insufficient evidence and said he didn't want to 'ruin the lives' of two young men who 'spent their adolescence working and sweating, while we were all in the air conditioning'. 


Sophomores Cam Robinson (upper right) and Laurence 'Hootie' Jones (bottom right) were arrested in May at a park in Monroe, Alabama. Authorities said they found marijuana and two guns, including one that had been stolen, inside their car. But Jones said there were four people in the vehicle and he didn't think it would be possible to prove who had been responsible for the items. Alabama coach Nick Saban hasn't announced a punishment for the players.
