Tragedy of retired matron who died from infected bedsores that care home staff failed to notice

Myfanwy Osborne, 83, had gone into Beechfields Nursing Home in Lichfield, West Midlands, to recover after treatment for bowel problems.

She chose the home because it was close to family and friends. But she developed bed sores and was taken to hospital months later (right) and developed sepsis - blood poisoning from the infection - and later pneumonia. Her family have now been awarded £20,000 as a settlement. Her daughter Susannah Marmot said: 'It grieves me to think how much pain and distress she must have suffered.'
