Cooking, cleaning and making babies: Inside the creepy Gloriavale cult where women's lives are strictly controlled by men and they have NO contact with the outside world
A new documentary on Gloriavale, a segregated Christian community in New Zealand examines what life is like for women in the cult-like community, which is cut off from the rest of the world.
A group of about 500 people live near Haupiri on the west coast of the South Island. The sole purpose in the women's life is for them to get married and have babies. Marriages are arranged between men and women by community leaders and women are expected to accept the proposals when they are offered to them. The documentary focuses on couples such as Dove Love and Watchful Steadfast (left and top right), following their lives in the lead up to the proposal and then their marriage.
