'I had a rough night, then I was sick. I was bawling my eyes out': How TV presenter and Team GB ambassador Charlie Webster fell ill six weeks ago during gruelling cycle to Rio - as she now fights for life
TV presenter Charlie Webster is fighting for her life in Brazil after contracting a rare strain of malaria on her way to the Olympic Games.
The 33-year-old is reportedly in a coma and on a life support machine in Rio de Janeiro (shown bottom left). Her family, including her mother and brother, have flown to be by her side. She began feeling unwell while attending the opening ceremony but put it down to dehydration - even tweeting pictures of herself from a hospital bed (pictured middle). Webster, who split amicably from Downton Abbey actor Allen Leech in December, made her way to the Brazilian city as part of a team who cycled 3,000 miles from the UK over a six-week period to raise money for a cancer charity (pictured top right, top left and bottom right). But her condition has since deteriorated, her publicist confirmed this morning.
