'I have been told I should have aborted Sophia... that she will be a drain on society': The unspoken secrets of a special needs mum

Pam De Almeida (right), a Canadian mother-of-two, often shares photos of her little girl Sophia (left, right and inset), 20 months, who has Down Syndrome.

Ms De Almeida was recently in the hospital with Sophia who was being treated for a blood infection, when she was inspired to write a post about the secrets of being a special needs mother. In a powerful Facebook post, Ms De Almeida revealed things she never had, including that she wasn't always brave that cruel words had made her cry and that she had lost friends as they didn't want to 'burden' her. She also said she feared dying because of Sophia's health issues. But Ms De Almeida said the most important thing is that she wouldn't change any of it. 'Not for a day, not for a minute, not even for a second. No matter how hard or challenging things become,' she concluded.
