Obsessed Frenchman who shouted 'Allahu Akbar' as he stabbed a British backpacker, 21, was 'entranced' and stalked her for days before flying into a rage over a racy photo shoot he found online

Frenchman Smail Ayad (left), 29, reportedly told other hostel guests he was married to British backpacker Mia Ayliffe-Chung (top right), 21, before allegedly stabbing her to death. 


Ayad was arrested while yelling 'Allahu Akbar' after he allegedly went on a rampage, killing the travelling waitress and student, who has been described by friends as 'an infectiously happy girl'. British man Tom Jackson (inset), 30, was also critically wounded when he was stabbed in the face 15 times trying to save Ms Ayliffe-Chung at Shelley's Backpackers in Home Hill, south of Townsville. Photographs of Ms Ayliffe-Chung on her Facebook page show she had been travelling around Australia, and had previously studied childcare at Buxton College and psychology at Chesterfield College in the UK. Australian man, Grant 'Grunta' Scholz, and British man Chris Porter also received minor injuries. Tributes have started flowing in for the 21-year-old woman (bottom right).
