Worst GCSE results for almost a decade: Number of pupils getting a C grade or above has fallen to lowest level for almost 10 years
Thousands of students were left disappointed when they collected their GCSE results this morning as it is revealed grades have fallen across the board.
The proportion of candidates receiving a C grade or above - considered a 'good pass' - has dropped to 66.9 per cent, its lowest level since 2008 (see graphic). The percentage of pupils achieving the top grades - A and above - has also fallen. It comes as experts warned that English and maths grades were likely to be dragged down by the rise in the number of over-16s re-sitting the exam. Girls continue to outperform boys across the board, achieving better grades in the majority of subjects.
