Mary's still a Guide at heart: Photo reveals Bake Off star dressed in her uniform - 70 years ago - after she recited Promise during the show while speaking with Brownie leader

An adorable photograph of a young Mary Berry - aged 10 - dressed proudly in her Girl Guides uniform (left) has revealed what she looked like when her flair for cookery first began. Miss Berry, who attended a Guides club in Bath, beams as she models her beret, a pocketed shirt and tie - with her long hair tied in neat plaits with bows. 


The 81-year-old appeared delighted when Brownies leader Kate Barmby revealed on Wednesday's show that she was baking a Brownies camp out of gingerbread. The baking judge promptly recited 'The Promise' (right), in which Brownies and Guides pledge to do their best and to serve God and the Queen, and proudly raised three fingers - the universal Guide salute.
