Teenager was just 'weeks from death' after health experts dismissed her brain tumour symptoms for six months

Lita Ruskin, 15, from Stoke-on-Trent, was turned away by healthcare professionals including a GP and opticians before the growth, which was was part benign and part cancerous, was found.

Because it had not been detected during any of the five consultations she attended, it had grown to 10cm by 8cm (inset). She was rushed to Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool where surgeons operated on her for 22 hours. And her mother Emma Gilchrist, 39, claims doctors said Lita would have collapsed and died 'within weeks' had she not had treatment.
