Firms to offer SMEs free survival training strategies

A number of dying Small and Medium Enterprises in Nigeria are expected to be rejuvenated and new ones come on stream as two prominent firms have signed an agreement to offer SME operators free training on how to break even as well as expand their operations.

An Information Technology integration firm, CWG Plc, said it had entered into an agreement with OLX to offer its enterprise resource planning solution to at least 100,000 SMEs in Nigeria for free.
A statement by the CWG quoted its Product Manager for SMERP, Mr. Chidiebere Asiegbu, as saying the SMERP solution was built specifically for the SMEs to enable them to manage their business operations efficiently.
He said the aim of the partnership was to leverage the OLX’s platform to reach and deploy the SMERP solution to over 100,000 unique merchants, currently using the platform, whilst still being available to new signups.
“The Enterprise Resource Planning is a process by which companies manage and integrate important parts of their business. An ERP management information system like the CWG’s SMERP solution integrates areas such as planning, purchasing, inventory, sales, marketing, finance, distribution and human resources,” he said.
Asiegbu said at least 20 per cent of the merchants on the OLX platform would need a business management tool such as the SMERP solution to support their business.
“We are happy with this partnership because it will afford us the opportunity to reach and deploy the SMERP solution that enables growth to the Nigerian economy. It is estimated that the SMEs segment accounts for over 25 per cent of employment in the country at present,” he said.
The Senior Manager, Business Development at OLX, Mayokun Fadeyibi, said, “We are excited to be working with CWG to offer OLX users exclusive access to a value-added system of integrated applications to manage and automate different areas of their business.
“The ERP solution will help users organise and grow their business while putting valuable structures in place. We encourage our users to take advantage of this exclusive opportunity where the service is free for one year for all OLX users.”
The statement said as part of the partnership, CWG would train the merchants on the use of the platform as well as host and support the platform for use, while OLX’s role would be to advise and encourage the merchant to use the platform, through its communication channels and sensitise the merchant to the functionalities, usage and benefits of the platform.
