Nigerian online money transfer service Thrivesend officially launches

Online money transfer service ThriveSend has been around for while and has been pretty impressive – a lot of Nigerians, just like me, have used the service and can testify of its impressiveness.

Thrivesend lets anyone with a with a local or international Mastercard, Visa or Verve card to send money to any verified Nigerian bank account – it’s a card to account instant money transfer service.
To use Thrivesend, one simply needs to specify an amount they’re sending, enter the bank details of a recipient, input their (the sender’s) card details and send. No login is required!
The maximum amount that can be sent at the moment is ₦100,000 (it was ₦10,000 the last time I used the service) and a flat fee of ₦45 (irregardless of the amount sent) is charged for each transactions. Also, all transactions are secure!
The latest news about Thrivesend is that it has been launched officially by Ventures Garden Group, a large Fintech investment holding company in Sub-Sahara Africa.
This piece of news is quite interesting because last time we checked Thrivesend was introduced by Iyin-founded payments company, Flutterwave.
Two things can be deduced from this: it’s either Ventures Garden Group has purchased the service from Flutterwave, or it has always been theirs from the onset and Flutterwave were just some partner to test the service, especially considering it uses the company’s PCI-DSS certified technology and infrastructure.
The first deduction wouldn’t be totally strange considering Ventures Garden Group has a thing for Fintech services – several Fintech entities are in its portfolio, including Flutterwave.
Irregardless of who owns the service now or then, the important thing is Thrivesend is now out officially and can be found on the web and on Android and iOS. Sending money from anywhere across the world to Nigeria using the service is as simple as 123!!!
“Remittances accounts for a huge portion of sub-Saharan Africa’s GDP, but even with over $30 billion coming into Africa — and a significant fraction of that coming to Nigeria — the cost of sending money home is expensive. Moreso, very few local players are offering an affordable service compliant with CBN’s regulations,” said Bunmi Akinyemiju, VGG’s CEO.
He added, “Leveraging Flutterwave’s Technology, ensures that we are able to provide a home-grown, affordable, compliant and secure solution for Nigerians in Nigeria and the diaspora.”
